With limited participants, everyone will have the chance to capture unique, individual shots, allowing for a diverse portfolio. Additionally, this intimate setting provides a rare opportunity for direct, hands-on learning from Gunnar in the field, enhancing both your skills and photographic insight, including direct insight into equine photography, drone photography and nature & landscape photography.

Embark on an unforgettable journey into Þórsmörk, the legendary Valley of Thor, nestled in the heart of the Icelandic Highlands. This exclusive tour presents a unique opportunity to photograph a majestic pack of Icelandic horses as they traverse this extraordinary landscape.

This ultimate photographic odyssey will guide us through the varied terrains of Þórsmörk, capturing the equine elegance against a backdrop of braided rivers, rugged terrains, and expansive fields of vibrant lupines. Experience the thrill of documenting these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat, as they move harmoniously with the stunning scenery around them.

Tour Program

Day 1: We’ve got an early morning, leaving from the capital region to make it to the Highlands. Expected departure around 6AM. This will be a very action packed day and we will be spending the day in Þórsmörk (Valley of Thor) as the horses make their way through the landscape. To top of the day, we will be photographing the horses as they make their way through the vast lupine fields.

Day 2: Capture the essence of the horses as they traverse through the rugged terrains, mountains, and past the stunning Fljótshlíð waterfall.

Day 3: Experience the grandeur of the horses crossing the majestic Rangá River. Enjoy a lunch at Heklu Hestar farm, complemented by homemade rhubarb pie and coffee.

Day 4: Seize the opportunity to photograph the horses in their natural splendor along the shores of Landeyjarfjöru beach. Subsequently, we'll discover additional scenic locations as we journey back to the city.

Experience level

Participants are expected to have a basic understanding of photography and should be reasonably comfortable using their own equipment. While there are no stringent requirements, a foundational knowledge will help you make the most of our field shoots. If you have a drone and wish to enhance your aerial photography skills, you are encouraged to bring it along.

Accommodation

Accommodation will be in some very cozy and high-end hotels in the area. We will be staying in the same places as the riders who are joining Hekluhestar for a tour so we will get a unique opporunity to connect with the riders as well.

We will be driving in Gunnars Red Jeep, a.k.a The Lava Jeep
